IndiGo Airlines Information
A private budget carrier based in Haryana, India, IndiGo launched its operations in August 2006, distinguishing itself for its efficient and low cost operations, as well as its low fares. Owned by InterGlobe Enterprises, IndiGo holds the second largest market share in the country’s domestic air travel industry, it is said to be the only Indian airline making a profit as of March 2012.
Distinguished as the fastest growing low cost carrier in the world, IndiGo has a fleet of 56 Airbus A320 aircraft and 224 more on order, the low cost airline flies under the slogan, “Go IndiGo.”
Early 2012 saw IndiGo receiving its 50th aircraft delivery in less than 6 years of operations. When Airbus won a US$ 15 billion deal to roll out 180 of its aircraft, IndiGo placed what is known to be the largest order of planes in commercial aviation history, pushing the percentage of Airbus aircraft in the country up by 73%.
The carrier flies passengers 347 times a day to 32 domestic and international destinations from its primary hub at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. It also operates from two of its secondary hubs at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai and the Netaji Subhash Chadra Bose International Airport in Kolkata.
In January 2011, IndiGo received its international operations license and launched its New Delhi to Dubai route in September of the same year. International routes to Bangkok, Kathmandu, Muscat, and Singapore opened in the following weeks.
