Bhubaneswar Airport BBI

Bhubaneswar Airport BBI is also recognised generally as Biju Patanaik Airport. This airport is located in the city of Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India. In the whole of area of Orissa, the Bhubaneswar Airport is considered the major airport.

The Biju Paranaik Airport or the Bhubaneswar Airport got its name from the well-recognised chief minister of Orissa, Biju Paranaik. Mr Buiju Paranaik was a recognised aviator and freedom fighter. The airport authority of India has currently devised a plan to create a new integrated, improved international airport complex in the area of Bhubaneswar. This is expected to be completed in 2010. To complete this amazingly designed structure, the airport authority of India will be required to make an investment of US $ 50 million.


The construction of this international airport complex will be done on an area of 70 acres. The estimated augment of the runway is planned to range up to 10,500 ft. With the extensions in the runway area, the airport will be able to accommodate a Boeing 747 aircraft easily. As per the plan, the terminal building has to follow modular design. Another objective that was in the pipeline for Bhubaneswar Airport was to improvise on cargo handling operations and facilities and to cater to this objective parallel taxi track was planned, which was capable of handling 30 aircrafts per hour.


Other facilities that have been planned, include accommodation facility to cater to 500 people at a time, and multiplex shopping facilities.

The Bhubaneswar Airport has the following flights, Indian Airlines (Destinations: Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi), IndiGo (Destinations: Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai), Jet Airways (Destination: Kolkata), JetLite (Destination: Kolkata), and Kingfisher Airlines (Destination: Bagdogra, Bangalore, Delhi, Guwahati, Kolkata, Mumbai).

The airport can be easily reached by taxi.
