Air Pegasus - Airline Information
Air Pegasus is an Indian low-cost carrier which became the latest addition to the country's burgeoning commercial aviation industry. The new airline is scheduled to debut on March 2014.
Air Pegasus is a brainchild of Shyson Thomas, a noted Indian businessman who also owns the Decor Aviation Private, Ltd. to which the airline falls under its management.
Decor Aviation Private, Ltd. is the country's leading ground handling agency that provides a wide range of services to both Indian and foreign-based carriers in major airports across India.
The budget airline is financed partly through bank loans. Mr. Thomas' Decor Aviation Private, Ltd. also contributed $15 million to set up the upcoming airline.
In its maiden operations, Air Pegasus will keep a fleet of three small aircraft, specifically the ATR 72 turboprop, whose range is suitable for its short-haul destinations, mostly tier-II cities across the southern part of India. The aircraft, which seats up to 78 passengers, is the mainstay of most regional airlines around the world.
To be headquartered in Bangalore, the airline will also make the city the main hub of its operations. Initially, it will focus on the southern cities of the country which it deemed underserved, thus demand is high enough to warrant sustainable operations. These cities include Cochin, Chennai, Hyderabad and Coimbatore.
