In the latest survey done by whichairline.com, two of India's budget carriers made it to the top 10 list as the most affordable airlines to travel with.
IndiGo and SpiceJet are the only two Indian carriers that figured in the elite circle of 10 of airlines who offer the cheapest one-way tickets including checked baggage. Yes, you heard it right, including 10kg of checked baggage!
SpiceJet emerged as the second most affordable in the world next only to Firefly of Malaysia. It surprisingly bested AirAsia, the budget travel pioneer and largest low-cost carrier operator in Asia, which came in only at fourth position.
SpiceJet was edged out only by Firefly which offers the cheapest one-way ticket at €30 plus an unbelievable 20 kg free checked baggage. Now, nobody offered that low!
SpiceJet, at a distant second place, offered almost twice as high as Firefly for the same one-way fare, at an average of €52.24. IndiGo, which occupied the 8th position, offered €68.37 on average for a one-way ticket.
So you thought all along that Ryanair is Europe's most affordable airline to travel with? You're wrong. Because two Turkish airlines, Onur Air, Atlasjet, and Pegasus Airlines, secured their 3rd, 6th and 7th spot respectively in the top 10 list, which means they are a lot cheaper to travel with than Ryanair.
Istanbul-based Onur Air, at third position, offered a one-way ticket slightly higher than SpiceJet, at €55.70. Another Istanbul-based carrier, Pegasus Airlines, offered the same ticket at €64.64.
Ryanair was even bested by eight other airlines as the cheapest European carriers. The Ireland-based largest low-cost airline is only ranked at no. 9 in Europe.
Meanwhile, Asia's largest budget airline operator, Malaysia-based AirAsia, ranked 4th in the survey.
Other airlines in the top 10 positions include FastJet from Africa (no. 5), Tigerair of Singapore (no. 9), and Mexico's VivaAerobus (no. 10).
