The surging demand in air travel market in India over the years has spawned a competition among airline companies with the aim for a viable customer service. These new airline set up their own unique rules in their organization as well as corporate ethics standard in order to take the challenge. Some of them manage to beat the odds and make profits while others opt for a more a more basic management and strategy.

Many airline companies complain suffer financial losses amidst the stiff competition and a sluggish economic growth. Air travel demand in one's country is almost always dictated by the health of its economy. So that when the country is reeling from a slumping economy, people seldom travel for leisure and the demand dives below its normal level. Many carriers either break even or suffer losses. However, in every competition, there is always a victor, no matter how trying the situation is.

That is what happens to IndiGo. Its CEO, Aditya Ghosh, is one of a kind among the bunch of company leaders, who was able to steer his airline to great heights, making profit in the process. He is an unassuming man with great humility and lives a simple lifestyle uncommon to people of his caliber. He doesn't own luxury cars. In fact, he doesn't mind driving second-hand cars. His management acumen proves to be effective and the envy in the industry, if not the whole country. But many industry insiders, including his counterparts, are doubtful of the budget carrier's supposed profits amidst economic slump, even calling it a "fancy".

Mr. Ghosh mirrors the airline's corporate image: simple but effective. IndiGo lives up to its name as no-frills low-fare airline doing away with costly ads, flashy passenger lounges, and on board LCD monitors, among others. Veering away from the usual practice of most airlines, IndiGo doesn't even employ receptionists in their offices and in airport terminal to greet their passengers. It doesn't even have a marketing team to sell its image. What it does have in its headquarters is an image of utter simplicity.

Despite the rising fuel and maintenance costs and other operational expenses, IndiGo was still able to make profits. His own personal style to live his life spills out to his style of management in a company as big as IndiGo. Modesty is the key. Unnecessary expenses should be avoided if only to minimize losses.

IndiGo was granted to operate international flights early last year and immediately commenced the New Delhi-Dubai service on September that year. Shortly after, it launched four more international flights to Singapore, Kathmandu, Muscat and Bangkok from its hubs in New Delhi and Mumbai.

The budget carrier reiterated that they will still put more emphasis on their domestic operations despite their overseas expansion.
