IndiGo To Venture Into Hospitality Business

Thursday, 25th December 2014 at 01:42am

IndiGo may be a late-comer in the commercial aviation industry having been set up only in 2006, but it has grown rapidly to become the largest airline in India today.

It is also the only profitable airline in the country since it started its commercial operations that has become the envy of India's other players.

Now, it is mulling to break into the hospitality business as well with plans to set up a new hotel chain initially in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It is also planning to set up an aviation school.

The planned aviation school would be through strategic partnership with Airbus, probably through a joint venture. The aviation center will also feature facilities that would support maintenance and repair and overhaul (MRO) aircraft.

The airline CEO and President, Rahul Bhatia, expressed his vision to transform Andhra Pradesh as the aviation hub in the country as a possible site for the planned aviation center.

He has the support of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, when the two met together on Thursday to discuss about his business plans.
