IBM's technology would enable the airlines to map their own carbon emissions, optimize their fuel consumption through detailed analysis of every flight. The said project is a significant move by the airline company under its 10-year business transformation deal with the IT giant to enhance its IT operations.

The system, aptly called Integrated Emission Management System, is developed by IBM which enables airlines to make accurate calculations of emissions from aircraft through a series of analysis. The process involves complex analysis such as comparisons of flight records and a data on fuel consumption of a particular aircraft contained in the aircraft's own internal systems and the its regional navigation data and flight records. It ensures proper calculation as well as accurate and on-time reporting of all flight emissions.

The IT giant is no stranger to the aviation technology development. Its expertise in software and hardware development for the aviation industry is capped by more than 50 years of experience in the business, helping airline companies as well as major airports around the world to provide efficient service to their customers.

Jet Airways saw an average growth of 12.9 percent for its domestic air traffic for the fiscal year 2011-12. As a result, its fuel consumption also increased significantly which ate up the bulk of its operating costs. In order to save on fuel costs, it has teamed up with IBM to come up with a solution that would transform all its aircraft become energy efficient. Jet Airways is committed to preserve the environment as its corporate responsibility. The IBM solution is a perfect tool not only to monitor its carbon footprint but also help the airline optimize its fuel consumption, thus said Sudheer Raghavan, Jet Airways' Chief Commercial Officer.

According to an IBM official, Ramesh Narasimhan, the robust growth of the Indian aviation market offers airline companies to take advantage of the opportunities to develop business strategies through technology innovations. The airline's technological expertise in its long years in the aviation industry has enabled us to develop a system that would greatly enhance its operations making them more efficient and keep their top position in the industry.
