AirAsia Confident On Indian Subsidiary

Like all his previous ventures in other countries, Tony Fernandes has been very upbeat about his new venture in India. This is in reference to his joint venture with India's largest business conglomerate, Tata Group, to launch a local subsidiary of his growing budget airline empire.

Sept 20, 2013. Officially called AirAsia India, the new budget carrier is poised to take off in three to four years after it gets approval from India's aviation regulatory agency, according to Tony Fernandes, himself, the CEO of the AirAsia Group.

He was very excited about his Indian venture as he viewed the country as progressing very fast and that he is very optimistic about its future.

The airline baron was in Singapore recently to launch the loyalty programme of AirAsia, called BIG. The loyalty programme, initially introduced in four Southeast Asian countries of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore, will soon be launched also in China, India and the Philippines.

In its initial phase, the budget leader has partnered with DBS Bank of Singapore and Starhub, a telecommunications company. Through this partnership, customers from both companies shall be able to convert their business rewards to AirAsia BIG points if they fly with the budget carrier.

Currently, BIG combined membership in four countries reach a total of 700,000.

AirAsia is said to be the region's first low-cost carrier to offer a loyalty programme to its customers.
