Air India Crew Not Keen on New Uniforms

Why is Air India Crew Unhappy with the New Uniforms?

The reason? Well, there are a number.

The biggest is that most AI's crew members find the new uniform design looks a bit scruffy. One of them said:

"Spending Rs 8 crore is a criminal waste of money. There was no need to change the uniform pattern or design. The current one is of global standards. As Air India is on saving mode, there was no need at all to go for new design and patterns."

Another issue that the crew members are unhappy with the new uniforms lies in the fact that the carrier asked the staff to have them sewn individually. Many consider this a waste of money.

One crew member said:

"Globally, all airlines have their panel of tailors to stitch uniforms for cockpit and cabin crew. The uniform should be identical, which makes you stand apart from other airlines,"

The crew is also unhappy with the fact that they no longer have a say when it comes to the designs and patterns of their uniforms. Whereas, in the past, something like this would have to go through a panel of designers, experts and crew members.

In addition, AI wanted all staff members to give measurements only ten days before revealing the new dress code

Finally, the aircrew is also unhappy with the refund rates being half the market rates.

What Will the Uniforms Look Like?

Air India will be providing the uniform materials.

Male cabin crew new uniforms will include black trousers, black waist jacket, blue pin stripe shirt, black coat and a red tie. Each male crew member will receive three pairs of trousers, nine shirts, two jackets and two ties.

On the other hand, female crew members will wear either yellow sarees with either churidars or regular blouses. They will get either four sarees and three churidar sets or seven sarees with blouses.
