Pondicherry Airport PNY

Also known as Puducherry Airport, this airport is present in Pondicherry, which is a beautiful beach city and the capital of Union Territory Pondicherry in Southern part of India.

Currently, there are no commercial airlines operating at the airport. However, its 3983 feet long runway is often used for charter planes. If you want to avail a commercial flight in Tamil Nadu, you can opt either for its three international airports (Chennai, Coimbatore and Trichy) or for the domestic airports like Tuticorn and Madurai airport.

Due to the ideal location of Pondicherry Airport, the Aviation Authority of India is trying to get a Central Government contract to open this airport for commercial purposes. The location of the airport as being ideal is proven by the following facts:

1. Its distance is only 7 Km from the city centre

2. Pondicherry railway station is at 7.4 Km from the airport

3. The local bus terminus is only at a distance of 6.3 Km from the airport

The airport has a single domestic terminal, and there are no facilities available currently, since no airlines are operating here. However, only provisional facilities such as drinking water and washrooms are available here.

Attractions

Pondicherry has recently become a famous national and international tourists’ spot. The International Yoga Festival takes place annually (in month of January) here, for which people visit this place from all over the globe to participate. This is why there is an urgent need to start commercial services on Pondicherry Airport.
