Dehra Dun Airport DED

The Dehra Dun airport is an airport located in Dehradun in the Uttarakhund state in India. It is situated about 25 kilometres southeast from the main city, and is also known as the Jolly Grant Airport. It is based on the foothills of the Himalaya Mountains, and is a great convenience for tourists who do not have to go through the hassle of travelling by road.

The airport serves the main city of Dehra Dun, and nearby cities if Rishikesh, and Haridwar. The airport went under an expansion in order to extend the runway, and it is now able to accommodate larger aircrafts. Some of the major carriers at this airport are Indian Airlines, Kingfisher Airlines, and Jet Airways. There are also some cargo carriers, which operate from this airport.

The Dehra Dun airport is spread over an area of 250 acres. The airport only has one domestic terminal, which has a capacity of 75 passengers. There is one runway at the airport, which is almost 7000 feet long.

Public Transport

There is an inter terminus bus service available to the airport, which is operated by the State Road Transport Department of India. Passengers can also travel by the city bus service or hire taxis. General taxis are available at the airport, and prepaid taxi booths will soon be opened on the premises as well. The estimated time for travelling via taxi to Rishikesh is 20 minutes, and 45 minutes to Hardiwar.

Car Hire

There are many local car rental services, which provide transport to the airport. Many hotels in the nearby vicinity also provide car hire services to its residents. There are also some international companies providing car rental service in the area such as Avis, and Hentz. In future, the airport is expected to have prepaid car rental booths on the premises.

Facilities

The airport has all the basic facilities such as snack bar, café, medical facilities with wheelchair assistance, pharmacy, a childcare room, and an organic food shop. There are also some shops, which sell local handicrafts.

It is expected that a business centre will be built at the Dehradun Airport in the future, as part of the expansion, and renovation plans.
