Cooch Behar Airport COH

Located in the Indian state of West Bengal, is Cooch Behar Airport. After being unused for more than two decades, this airport has been revived and the flight operations were officially announced to start from late August or September 2010. Moreover, the construction of the flyover that will lead directly to the airport has also been started.

Flight Operations

However, no commercial flights are operating from Cooch Behar Airport at present. It is expected that the airport will be a major connecting airport to the cities of Guwahati and Agartala. On the contrary, Deccan Aviation is providing chartered flights to and from the airport to Kolkata.

Paramount Jets have also planned to operate chartered flights from the airport. The airport has a runway of length 1,067 metres and it is a simple asphalt surface without any instrument landing systems installed at the airport.

The last airline that had operated at the airport was Vayudoot in the early 1980s. The non-functional period kept on elongating specially after the flood of 1993. After that, until now, the airport had remained vacant.

The Terminal

The Aviation Authority of India invested 40 million Rupees to construct a new terminal building, which will have an accommodative capacity of 100 passengers and an installation of an X-ray luggage machine, along with identification of 35 staff members who are ready for deployment at the airport.

The airport, which is built on 144.73 acres of land, is now being brought into the upfront by the efforts of West Bengal Tourism Department, since this part of the Indian land is getting an increased number of tourists annually. Focus on improving the ground transport systems for the passengers are also being done by the authorities.
