Weeks after it launched its commercial operations last January 9, Vistara has announced the launch of two more routes that will originate from its main hub in Delhi.

Starting February 20, Vistara will commence operation its Delhi-Goa route, initially with a once-daily flight. It will also launch its Delhi-Hyderabad route on March 1 or more than a week later. The latter route will be a twice-daily service.

The airline began with 68 weekly frequencies between three cities during its inaugural weeks prior to the planned addition of the two routes. It currently operates on three routes between Delhi and Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmedabad, as well as Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

Then, on March, the airline will also increase its weekly frequency on the existing routes. By the time, Vistara effectively increases its weekly frequency to 164 flights between the five cities.

Vistara is the offshoot of the joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines. It was conceived in October 2013 after the government relaxed its FDI policy on commercial aviation business, allowing foreign-based airlines to own up to 49% of the local airline.

After obtaining its permit to operate late last year, Visatara finally launched its commercial operations on January 9 this year.

It started with a fleet of three aircraft consisting mostly of narrow-body A320s jetliners. In March, it will take delivery of another two of the same type of aircraft to bring its fleet size to five.
