SpiceJet Promo Offer Sparks Fare War Among Rival Carriers

India is not new to price wars among low-cost carriers as the country's struggling budget players engage in constant battle for market share by attracting travelers with their discounted tickets, which don't actually differ much.
Recently, SpiceJet has announced its latest ticket sale for travel starting January 2015 up to October of the same year. The ticket sale lasted for three days, from September 1 to September 3, 2014. It offered heavily-discounted tickets, which are insanely low that would surely prompt those who don't even have any travel plans during the period to modify their travel calendar.
A one-way fare, for example, is being offered for as low as Rs499 which already includes fuel surcharge, but exclusive of applicable statutory taxes and other fees.
All tickets booked during the three-day promo period can be used for travel between January 16, 2015 until October 24 of the same year.
Rival airlines, such as Go Air, IndiGo and Jet Airways, similarly launched their own fare promo, but booked tickets during the promo period only have three months validity period. Unlike SpiceJet's promo tickets which are valid for travel over an 8-month period, their tickets are only valid for three months, from January up to March 2015.
SpiceJet was said to have received a whooping 100,000 booked tickets during the first day of the promo.
