SpiceJet Launches Flights to Srinagar and Delhi

Starting last Thursday, SpiceJet launched its new flights to Delhi and Srinagar from Chandigarh which is part of its expansion in northern India. The airline is aiming to connect the Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities in the country.

There would be a total of 11 flights a week between Delhi and Chandigarh or at least one flight daily between the two cities. The airline mounts two daily flights in this route every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The thrice weekly Delhi-Chandigarh-Srinagar flights will also commence and would continue thereafter every Thursday, Tuesday and Saturday.

The once-daily service from Delhi to Chandigarh will touch down at the Chandigarh Airport at 0815 hours and depart twenty minutes later, at 0835 hours. Meanwhile, the Srinagar flight will arrive at the Chandigarh Airport at 0930 hours and return to Srinagar at 0950 hours. The return flight will reach Srinagar one hour later and will leave again 20 minutes later back to Chandigarh.

In addition to the Chandigarh-Delhi-Srinagar sector, SpiceJet will also launch new services linking Amritsar to Srinagar and Delhi as well as between Indore and Delhi. Also starting next week, the Delhi-Dehradun service will commence.

Neil Raymond Mills, the Chief Executive Officer of SpiceJet, was on a conference recently and revealed plans and present programs of the airlines. He revealed that the reason why his airline is mounting flights to these cities and not on large urban centers. He admitted that India's Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities are the fast growing travel market in the country than the big metropolitan centers. He further revealed that its domestic flights in the south manage to get an 80 percent occupancy rate. The new services would bring its total domestic network to 37 cities across India.

The airline has just purchased 78-seater Q400 turboprop aircraft for its domestic service expansion.
