SpiceJet's mid-air yoga on Sunday allowed passengers on select flights to experience the benefit it brings to mind and body.
SpiceJet called the programme "High-on-yoga@ 35,000 feet" and was launched Sunday, 21 June 2015 in time for the celebration of the International Yoga Day.
The airline hired professional yoga instructors from the Isha Foundation which conducted in-flight yoga together with select airline crew. The instructors demonstrated the Upa-style yoga, using routines suitable for in-flight movements.
The Upa-style yoga is a very basic form of yoga that energizes the body, particularly the joint and muscle areas. Breathing control is also integrated in this type of yoga.
On that day, passengers of select SpiceJet flights were invited to do yoga exercises while in a sitting position. According to the airline's Chairman, Ajay Singh around 50 instructors from Isha helped make the event possible. The sessions reportedly lasted for around 10 minutes .
Aside from launching the in-flight yoga, more volunteers from Isha conducted Namaskar Mudra yoga at the airline's check-in areas as well as boarding gates.
SpiceJet said that the yoga programme launched on Sunday was applicable to flights with durations running beyond 1.5 hours.
