Indian Carriers Tie Up With Hotel Properties

A growing number of airline companies around the world have established partnership with hotel properties and operators to enable airline customers to book hotel rooms through their (airline) own websites.

The trend is catching up in India recently with Jet Airways as trailblazer in the unique concept. Rumors have it that IndiGo as well as the state-owned Air India are also planning to offer the same service to their customers.

Jet Airways' top executive revealed that they have been offering holiday packages, meaning air and hotel, to their clients for the last few years but have never allowed separate booking for hotel accommodation until recently.

Jet Airways is the only airline company in India to have offered hotel bookings to their customers. Most of these hotels are luxury properties within India and other designations where Jet flies to.

The airline executive further said that they are now expanding their database on hotel properties to include 2 to 3-star hotels and budget hotels.

A senior executive from Air India, meanwhile, also admitted that the airline is looking into the possibility of tying up with hotel properties and operators to allow their clients to book hotel rooms in the airline's own website.

IndiGo, a budget carrier and India's largest airline in terms of passengers carried and market share is also planning the same service to their clients, according to industry sources.

Most Indian airlines, save for IndiGo, have been in the red since the aviation industry went awry since the onset of the last half of the last decade. Debts and losses continue to pile up due largely to skyrocketing fuel prices and high airport fees, among others.
