Indian Airlines and Air India to Share IA Code

Indian Airlines and Air India announced they will share the flight code AI, news which comes nearly four years after the merger of the 2 Indian airlines was announced.

The shared flight code is expected to be used on a regular basis from February 2011, replacing Air India's IC code for all international and internal India flights

In a statement from Air India, the joint code comes as a requirement entry into the Star Alliance. The decision means that any passengers flying with the two airlines will no longer have to be issued with separate tickets for domestic and international flights.

The IA code implemented by SITA will affect approximately 19,500 flights every day from 1,071 airports in over 170 countries.
