India Flights Unaffected by Volcanic Ash
Indian carriers have stated that their flights have not been affected by the volcanic ash clouds from Iceland causing major disruption of air traffic in Europe.
Air India, Jet Airways and Kingfisher said that their flights were flying on schedule. However they have all increased the amount of fuel on planes travelling to or from Europe in the event that they are effected by the clods.
An Air India official is reported to have said: "We are closely monitoring the situation almost every few hours. We have asked the pilots (to ensure that planes) flying to Europe or North America to carry extra fuel in case of any diversion".
Similar statements have been made by Kingfisher and Jet Airways.
Over 1,000 flights, most of which are from the U.K., Germany and Ireland, were cancelled last week due to the volcanic eruption in Grimsvotn and the ash clouds getting blown over to Scotland and other parts of northern Europe.
