India Flight Performance Announced

Statistics released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation have been announced comparing airline performance.

Jet Airways, Jetlite and GoAir reported a month-on-month increase in seat factor (number of seats occupied against number of seats available) in February 2011.

Jet's seat factor was up to 76.5% (73.9%), JetLite's to 80.2% (74.6%) and GoAir's to 87.1% (83.3%).

Market share of the Indian domestic flight market were also announced, with Kingfisher taking a close lead, carrying around 1 out of every 5 passengers. The share was as follows:

- Kingfisher: 19%

- IndiGo: 18.7%

- Jet Airways: 18%

- Air India Domestic: 15.8%

- SpiceJet: 13.8%

- Jetlite: 8.1%

- Go Air: 6.6%.

In a statement on Wednesday, though, Jet claimed market leadership when taken together with low fare subsidiary JetLite. "Jet Airways, together with JetLite, successfully retained its leadership position in the Indian Aviation sector with a dominant market share of 26.1%. Jet Airways carried 3.81 lakh international revenue paying passengers in the month of February 2011 with an overall seat factor of 81.1%. The airline also carried 8.24 lakh domestic revenue paying passengers with a seat factor of 76.5%," the statement said.

On time performance was also reported, with Jet coming out on top, having 9 out of 10 flights taking off without delay. The details were as follows:

- Jet: 89.2%

- Kingfisher: 88.7%

- IndiGo: 86.8%

- GoAir: 83.2%.

- JetLite: 80.6%

- SpiceJet: 73.9%.

- Air India Domestic: 75%

Meanwhile, Air India the state-run air-carrier has been awarded as the Best Airline MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) and Best Engine MRO in India by the Indian Aviation and Stat Trade Times.

A company spokesperson said: "Clearly we are the leaders and have an unenviable record of servicing all types of aircraft, cargo and passenger, in the country."

A jury consisting of experts including the editorial board of Indian Aviation had selected Air India for the two awards, the release said.

The award was conferred on the company for excelling in the entire range of services that are provided by an MRO facility and for its significant contribution towards servicing and overseeing the critical maintenance of aircraft engines, the release said.
