IndiGo Increases Frequency on Vistara Routes

Seeing Vistara going to have a pie for its service debut, IndiGo wants a slice of that pie, too. And it doesn't even need an invitation to the party, but it is going anyway with a spoiler to boot" offering low fares to entice partygoers for a cheap ride.

Last January 9, 2015, Vistara debuted in India, a huge market known to be tough to crack for most carriers.

The Tata Sons-Singapore Airlines venture is the latest addition to the crowded Indian skies with the launch of its inaugural service via Delhi-Mumbai flight. On the same day, two other routes were launched, namely, Delhi-Ahmedabad and Mumbai-Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad is the former capital and the largest city in Gujarat state.

However, IndiGo looks like it won't give Vistara an enjoyable celebration during its debut on the Delhi-Ahmedabad and Mumbai-Ahmedabad routes by offering travelers a cheaper way to get to the former state capital.

The Rahul Bhatia-founded airline added a fifth daily flight between Delhi and Ahmedabad, and a sixth daily service between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

IndiGo is a low-cost carrier and currently the largest airline in India by market share at 33%. Not only it enjoys the distinction of being the country's largest carrier, but also prides itself as the only continuously profitable airline in India since it was founded in 2006.

In addition to the additional frequencies on two routes, it is also added frequencies to three other domestic routes, namely, Delhi-Pune, Pune-Bangalore and Kolkata-Agartala.

According to its President, Aditya Ghosh, they want to give business and leisure travelers as well as students more and cheaper options to travel on the said sectors.

Jet Airways earlier announced that it is going to award twice or even thrice as many frequent flyer miles to passengers on Vistara routes.

Vistara has its own value-based frequent flyer programme called Club Vistara, which is said to be based on ticket cost rather than on mileage. It will give away 500 bonus points to customers upon enrolment of the programme and another 200 points on each booking.
