Hurricane Sandy Causes Jet and AI to Suspend Flights

Tuesday, 30th October 2012 at 05:38am

Hurricane Sandy, which is said to be one of the largest storms to hit the United States East Coast, had forced Jet Airways and Air India to cancel/delay flights bound to New York and Newark for an indefinite period.

These were just among the thousands of flights that were either cancelled or delayed because of the massive hurricane Sandy. Jet Airways suspended flights 9W 227 and 228, which operates between Brussels and Newark. Flights scheduled on the next two days, on the 30th and 31st, are also going to be suspended, according to the spokesperson of the airline. He added that passengers affected by the cancelled flights can book alternative flights without penalty by getting in touch with their respective agents, or with the airline's Contact Centre.

On the other hand, Air India chose to just delay their flights instead of cancelling them. AI-191 and AI-101, which operates on the Mumbai-Newark and New Delhi-New York route respectively, were delayed indefinitely. All passengers affected were informed about this, and transit passengers were given hotel accommodations, according to AI spokesperson.

Hurricane Sandy made its landfall on New Jersey last Monday night, U.S. time. With its heavy rainfall and strong winds, it is expected to create great devastation in the East Coast. United States President Barack Obama has already put New Jersey, Massachusetts, New York, District of Columbia, and Virginia under state of emergency.
