Canceled SpiceJet Flight Irks Passengers

The troubled budget carrier has been rocked with flight cancellations in recent weeks much to the dismay of hundreds, if not thousands, of passengers daily.

In its latest flight cancellation Wednesday last week, more than a hundred passengers were stranded at the Karnatak International Airport including a father who was to take his son to a medical facility in Delhi to address his fragile condition.

The young boy was suffering epilepsy and he had to be taken to Delhi to avail of the top-notch medical care in the capital.

The boy's suffering was compounded following the cancellation of their SpiceJet flight. Along with other stranded passengers on that flight, the father and son went through a harrowing experience at the airport as they had to wait for an agonizing long hours hoping for the best.

The airline had to cancel another flight the day before.

The sight of a loving father holding his son in his one hand and hospital documents on the other was sad enough to behold as they waited without assurance if they will ever get to see the doctor in Delhi.

Though there are other flights to Delhi that day, the father said he couldn't afford their tickets as he had to save some for his son's medical needs. Tears welled from his eyes as he was seeking answer to his question if he will ever get to Delhi to cure his son.

Another passenger was lamenting how unlucky he was for booking a flight that had been canceled three times over and this was supposed to be his fourth flight and had to be canceled again. He claimed that the airline never explained through text message other than his flight was canceled.

SpiceJet though admitted that flight cancellations in recent weeks have been due to financial hardship and that it was unable to buy jet fuel for its planes.

The incident on Wednesday was made worse as passengers were not allowed to enter the terminal building by airport security officers, as virtually all SpiceJet flights that day were canceled.

The airline officials held an emergency meeting in Delhi to address the problem, while SpiceJet flights originating from Karnataka were all suspended. The airline though promised to refund the tickets within a week.
