AirAsia India To Fly Soon To Pune

Barely six months into commercial operations since its launch in June this year, AirAsia India has rapidly expanded its route network from its southern Indian hub of Bangalore to six.

Now, the low-cost newcomer is set to add Pune to its growing network, its seventh destination and link the city with its hub in Bangalore. Additionally, it will also launch a new route from Pune to Jaipur, already an existing destination.

To mark the launch of these two new routes, the airline had an all-inclusive one-way ticket for as low as Rs.1,499 for the Bangalore-Pune route or vice-versa. AirAsia India offered an all-in fare of Rs.2,999 for a one-way trip. The tickets were made available for purchase until November 23, and are valid for travel from December 17, 2014 to January 17, 2015.

Three months after it launched its maiden service between Bangalore and cities of Chennai, Kochi and Goa, it added two new routes from Bangalore to cities of Jaipur and Chandigarh.

It is also planning to launch soon a direct flight between Bangalore and Mumbai.

The entry of AirAsia India into the huge but highly-competitive Indian travel market was met with controversies and protests from existing airlines. Undaunted, it was able to secure its license after more than a year of waiting.

As expected, it has brought to India its signature year-round all-inclusive one-way fare, much to the displeasure of its existing operators who are already reeling from indebtedness and losses.

AirAsia India was established in March 2013 and commenced operations in June 2014. It is a joint venture between AirAsia Bhd. of Malaysia and two Indian partners, Tata Group and Telestra Tradeplace.
