Sonari Airport IXW

Sonari airport is located in Jamshedpur in the state of Jakhrand in India. It is a domestic airport with the IATA code IXW. The airport is managed by the Airports Authority of India. It is more popularly known as Jamshedpur Airport. It has a single runway, the direction of which is 26/08 and the length is 4,010 feet. Due to the short length of the runway, large aircrafts cannot operate from this airport. The airport serves two cities, Jamshedpur and Tatanagar.

This is a domestic airport. Kingfisher Airlines used to operate regular flights to Kolkata, and MDLR Airlines used to operate regular flights to Delhi, Chandigarh, and Ranchi. However, the airport category was dropped from 3C to 2C and both of these airlines stopped their operations. Currently, only Deccan Charter operates three flights daily to Kolkata. These charter flights are used to ferry Tata Steel’s employees and passengers.

Sonari Airport has a flight training school and simulator centre. The nearest commercial airports are in Ranchi and Kolkata.

Transport

Taxis, auto-rickshaws, car rental services, and local city buses were readily available in both Jamshedpur and Tatanagar that would ferry people to and from the airport. Facilities

The airport terminal has snacks and beverages’ counters. Sonari Airport today is primarily used by Tata Steel for their private corporate use, and no commercial flights operate from here.
