Cochin International COK

The Cochin International Airport is located in Nedumbassery, which is near Kochi, Kerala in India. It is the fourth busiest airport in India in terms of international traffic, and it is a hub for operations of many major airlines such as Air India, Jet Airways, and Go Air.

Cochin International is the first private airport in India. It has been a pioneering project regarding private investment in the airport sector. The airport has the capacity of almost 4 million passengers, and air traffic movements of 130 per day. It is said to be the most profitable airport in India.

The airport occupies a total area of 1500 acres, and has a runway 11,200 feet long. This runway is the longest in any airport of India. There are two terminals at the airport: domestic and international.

Public Transport

The airport is located on one of the major highways in Southern India, so it is easy to travel to by car or taxi. Passengers can also travel through train from the nearest railway stations, which are the Angamally Railway station, and Aluva Railway station.

There are also dedicated bus services operated by the Cochin International Airport for its passengers. There are three classes of buses: Air conditioned luxury buses, regular busses and Fast-Passenger buses. These buses travel from the city centre, nearby urban areas as well as the local villages. There are also regular bus stations from which buses travel to the airport, the nearest stations being the Angamaly Bus Depot and Aluva Rajiv Gandhi Municipal Bus Station.

A prepaid taxi service is also provided by the airport under the Cochin Airport Taxi Society. Counters are available at both the terminals from where the passengers can easily hire one.

There are many local as well as international car rental companies, which offer services to and from the airport.

Facilities

The Cochin International Airport has a wellness spa for its passengers.

There are many cafes, snack bars, and restaurants at the airport offering a variety of cuisines. A large multi-cuisine restaurant is available at the international terminal along with a large café operated by Café Coffee Day. In the future, a proper food court will be constructed at both the terminals.

The Cochin International Airport is a shopper’s paradise. The Cochin duty free area is one of the largest in India, and has a variety of international brands. There is also a last minute shopping counter where liquor, chocolates, and handicrafts can be purchased.

Medical facilities, a bank, and moneychanger are available as well. Many hotels also have their reception offices where passengers can confirm their bookings. A large childcare room is also available.

Both the terminals have free internet facility for the passengers. A business centre has also been constructed in the international terminal.
